A Burlington emergency-room doctor was so alarmed by a dying boy’s condition — and by his moms’ “casual” reaction to the news of their 12-year-old’s death — that she called Children’s Aid that night to recommend they remove his younger brother from the home.

Dr. Noura Labib was on call at Joseph Brant Hospital early evening Dec. 21, 2022, when emergency personnel brought in the boy “vital signs absent,” she testified in a Milton courthouse on Wednesday.

Labib was struck by how similar in size the boy was to her six-year-old son. And she was perplexed that he was wet “from head to toe.” He was “skin and bones,” dehydrated, malnourished and hypothermic, she said.
