Elderly residents of a low-income public housing complex near Cabot Square say their building has been taken over by drug dealers and addicts and they fear for their safety.

The Center for Research-Action on Race Relations is demanding an investigation by the Quebec Human Rights Commission, the health minister and the city’s ombudsperson about the situation at Manoir Charles Dutaud, saying residents’ complaints to the Office municipal d’habitation de Montréal (OMHM) and police are not being taken seriously.

The OMHM is a municipal entity whose mandate is to manage and administer Montreal’s housing stock and improve the living conditions of low-income citizens.
