A woman who suffered an "unfortunate medical episode" died soon after riding Disneyland's Haunted Mansion in Anaheim, California, police said.
The woman in her 60s had just finished riding the attraction on Monday, Oct. 6, when the medical episode occurred, Anaheim police spokesperson Sgt. Matt Sutter told USA TODAY in an email on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
Anaheim Fire and Rescue responded to Disneyland Resort around 6:30 p.m. after receiving a report about an unresponsive woman who had just ridden the ride, Sutter said. Disneyland security personnel provided CPR until paramedics arrived, he added.
The woman, whom police did not identify "out of respect for the family," was taken to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead, according to Sutter.
Haunted Mansion 'reopened soon after' medical episode
Sutter added that there is "no indication of any operating issue with the attraction, which reopened soon after."
USA TODAY contacted Disneyland on Wednesday, Oct. 8, and the park referred all questions to Anaheim authorities and the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner.
The Orange County sheriff-coroner will determine the woman's cause of death, Sutter said.
The Haunted Mansion, which is one of Disneyland’s most beloved attractions, opened in 1969 in New Orleans Square. In 2001, the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay, based on Tim Burton's “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” was introduced.
