PERRY, Ga. — The Perry mayoral race has drawn community attention as incumbent Randall Walker faces newcomer Christopher Smith, with both candidates focusing on issues crucial to Perry residents.
The topic of growth has dominated discussions, highlighting infrastructure upgrades as a priority.
Smith advocates for a pause in growth to allow the city to modernize its roads.
"That's actually part of the whole pumping the brakes thing is if you did that you would give the city time to catch up and modernize," Smith said.
Walker, however, says he has been proactively addressing these needs. He emphasized updating roads to accommodate increased traffic and highlighted a new wastewater treatment plant set to open in 2026.
"The growth was coming whether we were ready for it or not, and we f
