ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Former Elmira Pioneers Outfielder Eddie Kaufman has died after his battle with leukemia. He was just 20 years old.

He died on Tuesday, according to a Facebook post from his father, Brian Kaufman. Eddie was diagnosed with the disease last October. He was receiving care at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

"We appreciate all the support, prayers, and inspiration you provided to Eddie and our family over the past year. We will miss him dearly," Kaufman's dad wrote on Facebook, "Please continue to pray for him. It was such an honor to be his father."

He played for the Elmira Pioneers in the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League during the 2024 Summer season. Kaufman appeared in 22 games, notching 14 hits and 17 RBIs on 70 at bats in his lone
