Deseronto is discontinuing its transit service. Council recently made the decision to end Deseronto Transit service, effective December 1, after almost 20 years. The service provides regional transit to the Deseronto community and surrounding areas such as Napanee, Tyendinaga and Belleville. Mayor Dan Johnston says the decision was not made lightly but changing circumstances including funding and operational challenges, changes to agreements with neighbouring municipalities and a lack of growth in ridership have made it no longer feasible to continue the service. Once the service ends Council intends to provide a designated public space and encourage the creation of an online carpool/rideshare network to help connect individuals in need of transportation.
