CLINTON, Indiana — A western Indiana man has been charged with murder after allegedly killing his mother and then burning her body.

Nicholas Yates, 20, of Clinton, was arrested Sunday following an investigation into a missing persons case regarding his mother, Cheryl.

According to court documents, around 5:36 p.m. on Oct. 5, Vermillion County Sheriff's deputies were called to the 300 block of Davis Street in Clinton after Yates called to report that his mother, Cheryl, was missing.

When officers arrived, Yates reportedly said he last saw his mother on Oct. 3 and had waited until now to report her missing because "he had been calling her cell phone and getting a message stating there was an error in dialing the number."
