With just over a week to go before the municipal election, the Downtown Recovery Coalition has made a public cry for the police, courts and the province to get tougher on crime.
The coalition has also voiced its support of new police Chief Warren Driechel after he called for justice system reform and expressed concern over plea deals being hammered out in the courts.
A release issued by the coalition states that it is “deeply concerned about the escalating impacts of repeat and violent crime on Edmonton residents, businesses, and communities.”
The coalition calls for a review of bail standards, and that stricter standards by applied to “violent and repeat offenders.”
