South Florida joined Memphis in The Associated Press Top 25 this week, separating the American Conference even further from the other Group of Five leagues. The Tigers are 23rd and the Bulls are 24th while the Mountain West, Sun Belt, Conference USA and Mid-American have no one in the top 30.

The American Conference still has three undefeated teams in Memphis, Navy and North Texas. The only league with more is the Southeastern Conference (four), and the only other one with three is the Big Ten.

At long last, this week features the first games between teams expected to finish in the top half of the American, with Thursday night’s clash between Tulane and East Carolina followed by Friday night’s matchup of South Florida and North Texas.
