JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) -Phillip Johnson Senior thought the men who killed his son would spend the rest of their lives behind bars.

But a state Supreme Court ruling may give them a chance at freedom.

“My sunny days aren’t the same. It’s still like a black cloud,” said Phillip Johnson Sr.

On September 29th, Phillip Johnson Senior commemorated the loss of his son, Phillip Johnson Junior, more than a decade after he was shot and killed inside their Jackson home.

Just one week later, Johnson has found out his son’s killers could eventually walk free.

“We just went through that hurt and pain of remembrance and then to wake up and go on social media and see their names in the article they’re being re-sentenced,” Johnson said.
