It was a day of roping and riding Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Morongo Indian Reservation.
That’s when amateurs and professionals competed in the 20th Annual Morongo Indian Cowboy Ranch Rodeo.
“It’s more than great competition — it’s the energy, the fans and the way the community comes together that makes it a highlight of my season,” Aaron Tsinigine, 2015 PRCA Team Roping World Champion, said in a news release about the event.
The rodeo included open roping, team roping, ribbon roping and team branding, according to the release. Youths took part in mutton-busting and youth barrel racing.
Morongo Tribal Council Member Ryan Martin, the rodeo president, said the event recognizes the tribe’s long history of cattle ranching on the reservation near Cabazon.
