BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - A competency hearing has been granted for 21-year-old Terryon Thomas, the TikTok star with millions of followers accused of murdering a Baton Rouge therapist, as his defense team seeks to ensure he’s mentally fit to stand trial.

The 19th Judicial District Court approved a motion for the competency hearing Wednesday for Thomas, who pleaded not guilty in January to the 2024 first-degree murder of therapist Nick Abraham. Thomas, known for his social media presence where he has discussed being bipolar, will now undergo evaluation by two medical professionals.

Defense attorney Stephen Sterling III said the timing of the evaluation is crucial to avoid complications during a potential trial.
