A man was arrested Tuesday night after allegedly attacking another man with a chunk of asphalt and later injuring a Fresno police K-9 during his arrest, authorities said.
Officers responded just after 8 p.m. to Calaveras Street and Van Ness Avenue, where they found an adult male victim who had been struck twice in the head with a piece of asphalt while sitting at a bus stop, police said.
The victim suffered a large cut but declined to be taken to a hospital.
The suspect, identified as Keon Pyant, fled the scene but was located shortly after by the department’s Skywatch air unit.
Police said Pyant was uncooperative and armed with another piece of asphalt, which he raised toward officers several times.
K-9 Nick was deployed as Pyant tried to walk away, but Pyant struck the dog in the fa
