Police in Ohio say proper procedures were followed in a postgame incident in which they pepper sprayed Cardinal Ritter College Prep football players.
A scuffle broke out after the game, a 28-14 win by Massillon Washington over Cardinal Ritter on Friday night in Ohio.
"Ultimately, two Massillon police officers deployed pepper spray, which was effective," Massillon police Chief Jason Saintenoy wrote in a release. "We have thoroughly reviewed this incident and found they operated within our policies and procedures for the use-of-force action taken."
The Massillon police chief says the deployment of pepper spray followed multiple verbal orders telling Cardinal Ritter players to leave the field.
