After a decade of pushing for the B.C. government to bring in legislation that would require contractors to be paid within a certain time, industry groups were pleased to see such a bill this week but want assurances that the legislation will cover projects in the public as well as the private sectors.

A number of other jurisdictions across the country have brought in similar “prompt payment” legislation in recent years but in some provinces, like Alberta, the legislation started out by excluding some public sector projects before an uproar from industry forced them to remove that exception.
