JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — October is LGBTQ+ history month, and some Five Points businesses are using it to make a statement.

Public art displays have gone up around Five Points to protest Florida's ban on decorative crosswalks.

"When the crosswalks got painted over, we felt there was a need for more rainbows in Five Points," said Mere Mason while hanging some of her rainbow art.

Since public sidewalks could no longer have rainbows, artist Mere Mason found something that could - old pay phones.

"The payphones are just basically litter at this point, they're all abandoned," said Mason.

Mason says the Five Points Merchant Association commissioned her art while also adding rainbow banners throughout Five Points.
