As Californians begin receiving their ballots for the statewide special election on Nov. 8 , opponents of Proposition 50 are holding a rally in Palm Desert this Sunday to encourage voters to reject the measure and to support a new effort to require identification at the polls.

The event, scheduled from 1 to 2 p.m. on Oct. 12 at The Patriot Store on El Paseo, will bring together local and state leaders for what organizers describe as a grassroots push to "defend fair elections in California."
