PARMA, Ohio (WJW) – When many people think of Parma, they think of pink flamingos. The city and the bird seemingly go together, and now, it’s official!
Ahead of the city’s 200th birthday in 2026, they wanted to recognize the beloved bird.
"Today was our first official event where we made, with our partners at the city council, the pink flamingo as the official mascot for the city,” Parma Mayor Tim Degeeter said. “We had a Parma resident do an official bicentennial logo that prominently features the pink flamingos.”
Back in the 1960s, many residents in town decided to put plastic pink flamingos in their yards. While it was ridiculed at first, it eventually became a source of city pride.
