COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The city of Columbia held its first “Sharing the Road” community drop-in meeting Wednesday at the Richland Library, seeking public input to create a comprehensive safety action plan aimed at reducing serious crashes on city streets.

City leaders are gathering feedback from pedestrians, cyclists and drivers to help identify which areas project managers should target moving forward. The initiative comes as data reveals a troubling disparity in crash outcomes.

While pedestrians and bicyclists make up just a small fraction of total crashes, they account for nearly 50% of deadly ones, according to city data.
