VERONA, Wis. (WKOW) -- Verona police turned a dangerous moment on a highway into a rescue that's now making its rounds on social media.
It happened on Highway 18/151, when police received calls about a crane walking up the inner shoulder of the road. In bodycam footage, one officer said he noticed the crane had a broken wing. Another officer said he was going to hop out of his squad car to block traffic.
That's when officers flew into action.
Once traffic was stopped going north on the highway, the two officers chased down the crane and corralled it to safety.
"You really can't predict what a motorist is going to do trying to avoid a bird, you don't know what or who is next to you," said Verona Police Chief David Dresser.
