ST. HELENA ISLAND, S.C. (WSAV) — The St. Helena Branch Library will be holding events throughout October to honor Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Month, a spokesperson announced Tuesday.
On Oct. 12, 2006, an act of Congress officially established the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor and the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission that oversees it.
"This celebration is designed to honor, uplift, and share the vibrant and resilient heritage of the Gullah/Geechee people, whose history, language, traditions, and culture remain deeply rooted in the Sea Islands and Lowcountry region," a spokesperson said.
