DETROIT -- For much of this week, the tension inside Comerica Park felt heavier than the October chill. No one seemed to be having any fun.

In Game 3 on Tuesday , fans waited through nearly three hours of rain and cold only to watch a dud of a game -- a blowout until the Tigers picked up a couple of meaningless runs in the bottom of the ninth.

The sun came out on Wednesday, but saddled with another weekday afternoon start, many fans didn’t. Thousands of seats sat empty at Comerica Park, and for the first half of the game, the no-shows appeared to have made the right choice.

The Tigers trailed 3-0 in the fifth, their offense flat and uninspired. When Riley Greene grounded out weakly to end the fourth, there were audible boos -- directed partly at Greene, partly at the team as a whole
