GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Aaron Torres is thankful for every breath he takes.

It’s something he used to take for granted.

But after a life-saving lung transplant at Corewell Health’s leading transplant unit in Grand Rapids, Torres said he’s been given a new lease on life.

“[I’m] breathing right now,” said Torres. “That's a wonderful thing.”

A year and a half ago, things couldn’t have been more different.

Torres and his fiancée, Alexis, bought their first home together in the Detroit area and were considering starting a family.

But in June of 2024, Torres noticed he wasn’t feeling well. After getting tests and blood work run, he learned of a devastating diagnosis: testicular cancer.
