GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A memorial site honoring Veterans in Gainesville may be removed, and some residents are not happy, especially after the removal of rainbow crosswalks.
This summer, FDOT officials released a statement saying, in part artwork near roadways is a safety issue and can lead to distractions.
Now, a purple curb established in 2021 to honor Veterans along Northwest 8th Avenue could be the next piece of artwork to be painted over.
“I don’t think it’s any more distracting than the statues of the planets,” shared Joy Glanzer, who’s against the removal.
Glanzer says driving by the purple curb means a lot to her. Her family includes four generations of Veterans, so she feels like this stretch of purple honors them.
