FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- On Wednesday afternoon at the Fresno County Courthouse, a retrial began in a Huron murder case that ended in a hung jury earlier this summer.

21-year-old Andrew Leon is accused of shooting and killing April Diaz, his then-girlfriend's mother, in November of 2023.

In front of a new jury, the prosecutor and defense attorney shared detailed opening statements, painting a picture about the case.

"You will learn in the course of this trial that Mr. Leon shot April Diaz 11 times," said Prosecutor Kendall Reynolds.

The prosecutor told the jury that Leon was trying to talk with Diaz's daughter, Neveah, but wasn't let into the home before shots were fired.
