COLUMBIA, S.C. — Hispanic Heritage Month continues, a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions of the Hispanic and Latino community. One key part of that celebration is the impact of small businesses.

According to the state's small business report , there are 30,000 Hispanic owned businesses in South Carolina.

In Columbia, Veronica Ruiz and her husband Jose have turned their dreams into reality. The couple owns Crazy Pineapple and Mariscos Jalisco on Decker Boulevard, bring a blend of their Puerto Rican and Mexican cultures to the capital city.

“I came from the bottom to the top, before I mean I had nothing in my hands so having this place ,I feel so amazing,” Ruiz said.

Ruiz said her work is more than just a business, it’s a passion.
