PORTLAND, Ore. — After a whirlwind weekend that included the arrival of out-of-state National Guard troops in Oregon and a judge's order temporarily blocking their deployment to Portland, the Trump administration is asking the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to overturn the lower court's temporary restraining order and allow the deployment to proceed.

The court will hold its first hearing on the case on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 9 a.m.

On Monday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt blasted U.S. District Court Judge Karen Immergut's decision to temporarily block the use of federalized forces to protect the ICE office in Portland, calling it "untethered in reality and law," and Trump himself also spoke out against it.
