For Summer Severin, the road to a major Broadway musical tour began at Greenville’s Stone Academy.

It was there that Severin first got bitten by the acting bug.

In grades three through five, Severin participated in Stone’s annual “Big Show” at Furman’s McAlister Auditorium. The show spotlighted Stone’s young talent in acting, dancing and singing, with Severin featured in all three.

“I have the most amazing memories of performing at Furman,” Severin said in a recent phone interview. “I felt so supported and unafraid. It really cultivated my desire to be an artist.”

Flash forward to today: Severin, 22, is performing in the First National Tour of the critically acclaimed “Water For Elephants,” arriving at the Peace Center on Oct. 21 for eight performances through Oct. 26.
