SALT LAKE CITY — Firefighters said on Wednesday that they will remain on scene to fight a fire near Springville until the blaze reaches 100% containment, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

The Cherry Fire reached 540 acres on Wednesday with 84% containment after first starting on Thursday.

“Firefighters will be working in the area until 100% containment is reached, likely by a season-ending event such as heavy snow,” the forest service said.

The fire service is asking drivers to reduce speeds when driving around the area of the fire and to watch for “rolling material.”

According to the forest service, firefighters are expecting wet weather over the upcoming weekend. For now, the weather is forecasted to be warm and dry with winds returning to the area in the afternoon.
