RICHMOND, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- The University of Virginia could lose state funding if it signs onto an education compact it received from the federal government last week.

In a letter to UVA Interim President Paul Mahoney and Board of Visitors Rector Rachel Sheridan, Democrats in the state Senate write that if UVA signs the Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education, “there will be significant consequences in future Virginia budget cycles.” Download PDF
