PHOENIX (AZFamily) -- Phoenix police released edited body camera footage showing the moments a man wielding a machete reportedly held a toddler hostage at a Phoenix home in late September.
In the video from Sept. 24, officers are seen arriving at the scene and commanding Wilson Melgar to drop the weapon and release his son. When Melgar ignored their commands and a Styrofoam bullet failed to stop him, police shot him.
“It’s the police from Phoenix,” an officer is heard saying in the first clip in Spanish. “Please come outside.”
“There’s another person,” a different officer is heard saying.
“Who else is inside?” one officer is heard asking. “Your brother? What is his name?”
“It’s Phoenix Police, come outside with your hands up,” the officer said.
