WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Wichita school district is working to create more connections with families and the community with a new pilot program called “Community Schools.”
The program, launching at seven area elementary schools this year, works to bring academics, health, social services and community partnerships to give students comprehensive support. It also works to invite families into their students’ schools to volunteer and what what they’re learning.
“Schools are more than buildings, they are the heartbeat of our neighborhoods,” said former Gordon Parks Academy Principal Latonia Kennedy.
The seven elementary schools in which the program will be launching this year include Adams, Anderson, Colvin, Dodge, Stanley, Spade and Washington elementary schools.
