BASTROP, La. (KNOE) - A new cheerleading program in Morehouse Parish is giving local kids purpose, structure and a safe space to grow.

Temer Hadnot, a former New Orleans Saints cheerleader from Bastrop, and Richard Hadnot, a former Grambling State cheerleader, are the directors behind MoreHouse Blaze All-Star Cheer.

The program is completely free and open to new members.

“We want to get kids off the couches in the gyms, off the iPads in the gym, back active, like we used to be when we were kids,” they said.

The team trains hard, even without some of the basics like practice mats. But that hasn’t slowed their momentum.

Courtlin Winkler said her daughter Kendall Wimberley, just six years old, looks forward to practice every day.
