IBERVILLE PARISH, La. (WAFB) - Nothing can prepare you for the loss of a friend, a colleague, or a loved one.
That’s the reality one former officer faced after learning about the deadly courthouse shooting that claimed the life of Deputy Charles Riley and injured Captain Brett Stassi Jr.
Terry Taylor, who spent 15 years in law enforcement, trained Riley when he first became an officer in Gonzales.
“I asked a friend if it was someone I knew, and she told me, ‘No, not really, unless you knew any of the younger guys that were over here. It wasn’t until the next morning I woke up that I saw that it was Charles,” Taylor said.
Taylor said he helped mentor Riley early in his career.
“I actually got to partake and mold him into the deputy that he was, and that experience was priceless,” he sa
