Pride is not a noun. It's a verb.

That was how Bernie's Bar co-founder and owner Patrick Fisher summed it up as the city prepares to host its sixth Pride this weekend.

The festival kicks off in earnest on Saturday, October 11, with the return of the annual parade from Honeysuckle to Nobbys Beach, ahead of a packed schedule of free and ticketed LGBTQIA+ events, workshops, performances and parties.

Mr Fisher, whose venue is hosting several events in association with Pride, said the event was the "real world demonstration" of diversity in the city, and a powerful message of support for a community whose past and present have been marked by ostracism and discrimination.
