After the first phase of Priority Improvement Projects (PIPs) in Mesa County Valley School District 51, the district has more than $5 million that can go toward other bond projects.
Last year, Mesa County voters approved $190 million in bond funds for improvement projects around the district. For what the district has labeled “Phase 1 PIPs”, of the $28.8 million budget, $23.4 was committed and, through August, $20.4 million was spent.
These Phase 1 PIPs are:
Asbestos abatement in five schools;
Fire sprinkler systems installed in seven schools;
Upgraded fire alarms in three schools;
Improved and added security vestibules in three schools;
Playground improvements in five schools;
Special education and small group room additions and modifications in five schools;
Added drinking fount
