It may take more than money to satisfy Scottsdale teachers.

And, though educators here continue to complain of low pay, significant salary increases seem unlikely – as Scottsdale’s public school district is pondering school closures.

Two weeks after Echo Canyon and Pima Elementary families received notices their schools may be shuttered for the 2026-2027 school year, representatives of four unions pitched the Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board, as part of ongoing negotiations.

According to a Sept. 30 presentation to the board, it’s not just about pay: many teachers feel threatened, harassed and generally unsafe.
