The Supreme Court on Thursday permitted Ashish Mishra, son of former Union Minister Ajay Mishra and an accused in the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, to visit his hometown on October 20 to celebrate Diwali with his family members.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi reiterated that the earlier restriction barring political workers or members of the public from participating in such celebrations will continue to apply.
Senior advocate Siddharth Dave , appearing for Mishra, sought permission for his client to travel to Lakhimpur and assured the bench that he would return by October 22. The top court granted the request while maintaining the existing restrictions imposed at the time of bail.
