TUCSON, Ariz. (KVOA) - The Tucson City Council is opposing a federal compact that would require the University of Arizona to align with priorities set by the Trump administration. The council unanimously passed a resolution Wednesday night, against what it calls “targeted federal interference and disinvestment in higher education.”
The resolution criticizes the Trump administration's “attempt to tie local universities to federal political agendas,” calling it a "significant overreach into Tucson."
The federal government has provided the “Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education” to nine universities nationwide. If schools agree to the memo, they will receive improved access to federal funding.
