OpenAI, in partnership with India’s National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and fintech firm Razorpay, has launched a pilot programme to enable Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments directly through the AI chatbot ChatGPT. The collaboration is one of the first attempts to integrate India’s real-time payments network with an AI chatbot, aimed at allowing users to complete purchases within the chat interface itself.

The partnership was announced today, that is October 9. As part of the pilot, OpenAI will test how UPI can be us ed to let AI agents carry out transactions “autonomously, in a safe, secure, and user-controlled manner,” the companies said in a joint statement.
