WILMINGTON, Ohio — Officers shot and killed a dog Wednesday as it was attacking its owner, who had to be flown to a hospital, police say.
Wilmington police say they initially received a call about dogs possibly fighting at a home. The caller thought the owner was yelling at the dogs, police say.
While heading to the residence, a person called 911 saying they heard a person screaming and that a dog was attacking its owner. Officers found the attack in progress when they arrived at the scene, police say.
Officers shot and killed the dog at the residence. The owner first was taken to Clinton Regional Hospital, then flown by helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Police did not release information on the condition of the victim.
