Motorists in Perth have been warned to be on their guard following the discovery of a wide-scale parking ticket machine scam. ‌

Perth and Kinross Council (PKC) revealed that one of its officers found fraudulent QR codes attached to two parking ticket machines on Wednesday evening. ‌

The officer had patrolled the area just ten minutes earlier and there was no sign of tampering then. ‌

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that more ticket machines had been targeted.

The counterfeit QR codes direct people to seemingly official websites which are then used to pilfer sensitive information such as bank details.

In response to this, PKC's Community Support and Enforcement team conducted a city-wide sweep and removed 170 fake QR codes from ticket machines. ‌
