A children's convalescent home was about to close its doors for good when two leaders arrived in the 1970s and refused to give up on the facility.

Siblings Albert and Carol Gray knew that many young people had received care at the home since it was founded as an orphanage in 1898 by an indomitable school teacher named Mattie M. Mallory. Putting their Christian faith into action, the pair rallied the surrounding community's support and what would eventually become known as the Bethany Children's Health Center in Bethany got a fresh start.
