There’s nothing vanilla about home-brand ice cream, according to the latest testing results from consumer group Choice.

Experts put 25 vanilla ice creams through rigorous testing for texture, flavour, smoothness and aroma, with surprising results that will have shoppers rethinking their frozen dessert choices.

Budget buy Coles Irresistible Vanilla Bean claimed the top spot with an impressive score of 91 per cent, proving that quality doesn’t always come with a premium price tag.

Aldi’s Indulgence Gourmet Ice Cream secured second place, followed by Norco Cape Byron Ultimate Vanilla and Woolworths Vanilla Bean Indulgent Ice Cream rounding out the top four.
