A frequently-bashed railway bridge in Cambridgeshire has been hit once again, causing train delays. The bridge on Stuntney Road, Ely , was hit at around 8.15am on Thursday (October 9).
Greater Anglia reported delays to trains between Ipswich and Peterborough via Ely ; between Ipswich and Cambridge ; and between Norwich and Stansted Airport via Cambridge.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: "We received reports of a vehicle striking a railway bridge at Stuntney Road at 08.15am.
"Our teams were immediately dispatched to inspect the bridge, and no structural damage was found, allowing normal train services to safely resume around 11am. Bridge strikes like this cost taxpayers millions of pounds every year and are entirely avoidable."
