MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - On this day October 9, 1981, the Milwaukee Brewers won their first playoff game in franchise history in front of over 56,000 rowdy fans at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx!
The Brewers trailed all the way into the seventh inning, but a late rally carried them to the win.
Both Paul Molitor and Ted Simmons had multi-hit games to fuel the Brewers to the victory.
Randy Lerch started and pitched six strong inning, but Rollie Fingers blew the save opportunity in the seventh inning as the Yankees tied the score up at three.
The offense would go to work in the eighth, as Molitor hit a home run and Simmons hit a double to help the Brewers secure the five to three victory.
The Brewers would go on to win game four, but lose the series after a seven to three loss in game five.
