Customers of five water firms face being hit by further rises to their inflation-busting bills. The companies are to be provisionally allowed to raise their bills by up to 5% more than previously granted by regulator Ofwat to meet regulatory requirements. ‌

Anglian Water, Northumbrian Water, South East Water, Southern Water and Wessex Water argued they needed more cash to help boost services and reduce spillages. An independent group of experts was appointed by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to assess the bill increase. ‌
