European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has comfortably survived two bids to remove her from her role, with the European Parliament rejecting no-confidence motions from hard-right and left groups on Thursday.

EU politicians rejected the two motions of censure with 378 members of the 720-strong parliament expressing support for von der Leyen in the first vote and 383 in the second.

Ms von der Leyen is one of Europe's most prominent figures on the world stage and has been outspoken on various issues, including recently in expressing interest in adopting Australia's social media ban for under 16s.
