The Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) has announced it will 'embed' job advisers in GP surgeries across the country as it continues its drive to get sick and disabled people back into work. Over 40,000 sick or disabled people will receive 'intensive employment support' as part of the Connect to Work programme.

The expansion of the programme means nine further areas across England, including Cumbria, Oxfordshire, and West Sussex and Brighton, have received funding to help people back into work.

As part of the support, the DWP says it is embedding specialist advisers directly within healthcare teams - from GP surgeries to mental health services - to treat employment support as holistic care.
