While coaching Glendale in a girls’ high school basketball game earlier this week, Jeff Morgan looked down to the other team’s bench and saw a familiar face.

Coaching on the Sir Winston Churchill bench was one of his former players. One of hundreds he’s worked with over his nearly three decades in coaching.

“We had a good chat after the game,” Morgan says. “That’s always cool. I mean, that’s the legacy piece, the cycle of life piece.”

That pass-it-along ethos is a big part of the reason he was named one of two winners of the Wismer Award for High School Coaching Excellence on Wednesday evening.
